"Our first scheduled season game for the 2009 season in the Fourth District will be Tuesday, May 26. District play off games for the 17 and under teams to determine the District Champion will commence on Monday, July 6 and the 19 and under teams will commence the play off games on Monday, July 13, 2009. The teams that have the best won lost record will host the first round of the play off games.

Frequently Asked Questions

    Q. Do I, as the Coach, have to wear a helmet when coaching at the 1st or 3rd base.?

    A. Yes. Coaches are mandated to wear a helmet when in the coaching box. The decision as to what type of helmet you wish to wear is left up to you or the club. But you have to wear a protective helmet while in the coaching box. It can ba a single or no flap helmet. If you do not have a helmet you can not remain on the field.

    Q. Does the Coach have to stay in the coaches box at 1st and 3rd base?

    A. Coaches are mandated to remain in the coach's box until the ball is put into play. Coaches will not be allowed to creep towards home plate until the ball is in play. Coaches must have both feet inside the front of the coach's box. However, if the coach wants to move away from the plate - out the back of the box MLB will not mandate he remain in the box. If a coach is outside the box (closer to home plate) he will be warned once and on the 2nd infraction, will be ejected. If he is out of the back of the coach's box this is not considered an infraction.

    Q. Are Coaches required to wear a uniform?

    A. Yes. Players and coaches must be in uniforms of the same color and style.

    Q. Are players and coaches required to have the American Legion Baseball insignia on his uniform?

    A. Yes. Any coach or manager (not players) who does not have an American Legion Baseball Insignia on either the left sleeve or left chest of his uniform shirt will be removed from the game. However, players (not coaches and managers) in the 4th Distric will not be required to have the insignia until Department Tournaments begin.

    Q. What are the age requirements for players?

    A. Senior American Legion Baseball competition in 2009 is open only to players born on or after January 1, 1990. Junior American Legion Baseball competition in 2009 is open only to players born on or after January 1, 1992.

    Q. If a game is rained out does play commence where left off or do you start all over?

    A. Rained out games during regular season or tournament play will be picked up where left off and the pitching rule will still be in effect. All games in regular season must be made up to be eligible for tournament play.

    Q. How many players can be on a team?

    A. No American Legion team may have more than 18 registered players once the National Form #1 is registered with the Department. Each team must have at least 12 players for tournament play. If entity has a Junior team, up to 3 players from the Junior team may be moved up to make a total of no more than 12 players.
